Article: Halloween Paper Chains - Halloween Decorations on a Budget

Halloween Paper Chains - Halloween Decorations on a Budget

You can make yards and yards (or miles and miles) of orange and black paper chains that can be draped around rooms, over doorways, in between windows, or hung from open doorways to create a “pass-through” curtain (like an old-fashioned beaded curtain).

Paper chains are really simple, and you need minimal supplies:

1. Sheets of orange and black construction paper (see alternatives listed below)

2. Kid-friendly scissors

3. Glue sticks or scotch tape

That’s it! That’s everything you need. Now you can make paper chains!

1. Cut the paper in 1 or 2 inch wide strips so that the strips are 8-1/2 inches long.

2. Take one strip and make a circle by putting the two ends together. Glue or tape closed.

3. Take another strip (alternate the colors) and pass one end through the circle (that you made in step 2). Put the two ends together of the second strip. Glue or tape closed.

4. Continue on until the paper chain is as long as you desire.

Have some fun! Once the paper chain is started, you can work on one end and your child can work on the other end. Who can make the most chain length in 15 minutes???

As an alternative to orange and black construction paper, you can use this free printable Halloween-themed scrapbooking paper. Print out as many pages as you like (you don’t have to personalize it, just print it as orange and black colored paper.

As another alternative, get a piece of white printer paper. Have your kids draw and color the paper with orange and black crayons. Now, copy that colored page as many times as desired to use as orange and black paper.
